Catalina Danis

catalina_256sq

Catalina is a Research Staff Member in the Social Computing Group at IBM’s TJ Watson Research Center. Her current work is in two seemingly unrelated areas: programmer productivity in the field of high performance computing and the use of mobile phones for information and communication purposes by users in the “developing world.” The connective thread through these and other projects she has been involved in since 2000 is an interest in how people use technology to collaboratively accomplish goals. Prior to her focus on Social and Collaborative Technologies, Catalina worked with applications based on Automatic Speech Recognition technology, kiosk applications and internet applications. Catalina holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Chicago, where her focus was on language acquisition and the operation of memory in language processing. She has published broadly in the areas of computer supported collaborative work, programmer productivity, automatic speech recognition applications, and human language processing.
