Biketastic is an application that runs on mobile phones that enables cyclists to log their routes using GPS. The logs include automatically sensed data on the roughness and noise level (amount of traffic) of the route, as well as permitting geo-tagged notes and images to be added. The goal is to provide a map that allows cyclists to share their routes, and to plot new routes baed on safety and interest. See http://tr.im/AlZy

Cyclopath, a project I’m peripherally involved with at the University of Minnesota, has a new component in the works: Cycloplan. Cycloplan will extend the user-oriented geographic wiki (which allows bicyclists to create, modify and use a bike and street map for route-finding) to support use by planners. Possible uses include creating a comprehensive and accurate inventory of bicycle-related facilities for planning, as well as opening to door to participatory input from cyclists.
